Taipei – Taiwan has shown the world determination to defend freedom and democracy – despite tensions with China. This was emphasized by Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen at the end of her trip, which also took her to Guatemala, Belize and the United States. In Los Angeles last week, Tsai met with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. China, which regards democratically-ruled Taiwan as its own territory, began military drills around the island on Saturday in response to Tai’s overseas trip, stressing on Wednesday that Tsai would push Taiwan into a “stormy sea.”
