Following SK Telecom, LG U+ introduced four additional 5G intermediate rate plans, and the competition between the three telecommunication companies began in earnest.
especially It is expected that there will be fierce competition for 5G rate plans in the upper half of 40,000 won per month in the case of a monthly flat rate of 60,000 won and optional contract discounts. This is because, in the finely subdivided rate system in units of 1,000 won per month, the monthly fee and the amount of data provided may be reversed depending on the additional intermediate rate plan that KT will release later.
As a result, it is expected that following KT’s mid-rate plan, there will be a fierce battle over providing additional data for the 60,000 won plan or lowering the monthly fee.
The four mid-range rate plans introduced by SK Telecom and LG U+ are characterized by a difference in the amount of data provided in units of regarding 2,000 won from the 24GB and 31GB monthly data rate plans introduced last year.
In the meantime, it is noteworthy that the amount of data provided is different from each other while offering the same monthly fee in the range of 66,000 won and 68,000 won per month.
First of all, SK Telecom decided to provide 74GB of data in the monthly rate plan of 66,000 won, while LG U+ offered 80GB. LG U+ allows you to use 6GB of data per month for the same price.
In the monthly rate plan of 68,000 won, SK Telecom provides 99GB of data per month, 4GB more than LG U+. However, LG Uplus raised the speed limit to 3 megabits per second, which allows data to be used continuously without additional charges following the data supply is exhausted. In the case of SK Telecom, the speed limit (QoS) of all medium rate plans is the same at 1Mbps.
In other rate plans, the amount of data provided is staggered with a difference of 1,000 won per month, and the sections are tightly knit.
What should be noted in the future is what kind of rate plan KT will present following checking all the intermediate rate plans proposed by SK Telecom and LG U+.
KT’s current 5G plan consists of 30GB of data for 61,000 won per month and 110GB of data for 69,000 won per month. The monthly 61,000 won section is similar to LG Uplus, and the 69,000 won section is the same as SK Telecom.

If KT proposes 4 types of rate plans like the two companies that introduced additional mid-rate plans earlier, it is inevitable to design more compact rates than competitors with a difference of 8,000 won per month.
An official from the telecommunications industry said, “KT is in a situation where the design of a new rate plan is delayed due to the absence of a decision maker. A competitive convergence process is expected in which the new rate plan is re-adjusted depending on which terms and conditions are reported.”
