A vehicle and its passenger in the Meuse: the story of Lustin

On Tuesday at approximately 1:30 p.m., a woman driving a Renault Clio drove into the Meuse River at Lustin bridge on Rue Frappe-cul. Firefighters from NAGE and Dinaphi, led by Captain Arnaud Brouwers, arrived on the scene with various vehicles and divers, accompanied by the Godinne SMUR. Upon arrival, the car had submerged completely, and only the rear trunk was visible. The driver had already escaped from the car but was struggling in the river. Rescuers managed to save her by pulling her out of the water with a rope and transported her to a hospital. The police officers from the Haute-Meuse area and waterways managed the administrative part of the situation, and a repairman named Jérôme Loriers was tasked with removing the damaged vehicle from the water. The rescuers’ quick intervention saved the woman’s life, and she is indebted to them for their bravery.

When rescuers arrived, the vehicle disappeared into the waves, leaving just the rear trunk visible. As for the driver, she had got out of the submerged car and was struggling in the river.

Rescuers managed to pull her to shore using a rope. The victim was taken to a hospital. She owes a great debt to the rescuers who intervened very quickly.

The police officers of the Haute-Meuse area as well as the waterways intervened to manage the administrative part of the intervention. Repairman Jérôme Loriers was called upon to pull the damaged vehicle out of the water. SG
