“Representatives of the Rokiškis district student council met with the district mayor Ramūnas Godeliauskas. They represent various educational institutions of the district. We asked them for their opinion on why the majority of schoolchildren surveyed in the district indicate that they lack dance in their schools. Where is the crux of the problem? The youth explained that almost all schools face the same problem: they want discos, they agree to organize them, but the teachers are not eager to be on duty during them. R. Godeliauskas offered funding to hire security during discos or other relaxing evenings. This year, 5,000 euros will be allocated from the budget of the district municipality, which will be divided among all schools. Unused money will be returned to the municipal budget. We will evaluate the situation once more next year”, assured the coordinator of youth affairs Gediminas Kriovė.
In his opinion, this is a moral thing, educational institutions themselves should want to organize discos. “Schools might create an environment for students not only for science and knowledge, but also for leisure, where young people can relax and have fun. Hopefully the schools themselves will understand this and not have to encourage them. Of course, there are schools that even now organize discos, and teachers agree to be on duty during them. We hope that such schools will no longer be different, and most and all will understand the importance of these evenings of rest in schools for a young person”, says G. Kriovė.
At the end of last year, during the preparation of the 2023-2028 In the Rokiškis youth problem solving plan, not a single school-age interviewee expressed the opinion that discos are missing in schools.
