Swift’s future looms ahead of WWDC23

Just before the release of Swift 5.8, the famous site Swift Package Index together receive official support from Apple, which is a significant step forward for the community. In parallel with this small event within the circle of developers, the first new features of Swift 5.9 are starting to appear. It is therefore a good time to take a first look at what awaits us in June.

Swift Package Index: a major repository

Before the arrival of Swift packages (reusable modules in application projects) and the corresponding dependency manager, developers mainly used CocoaPods. The latter had the advantage of providing a repository of over 95,000 Pods, which are the equivalent of Swift packages. Conversely, to find a Swift package, you had to — and often still have to — go to a source code repository like GitHub.
