Received the news of being fired, the bank employee opened fire in horror, causing many deaths

After receiving the notice of dismissal, bank employee Sturgeon, 25, opened fire at work and live-streamed on social media footage of him shooting several people.

Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, acting police chief of Louisville, Kentucky, USA, on April 10 said the gunman was identified as Connor Sturgeon, 25 years old. He was accused of killing five people at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky, following being laid off.

Law enforcement sources said Sturgeon received the notice of dismissal following more than a year at the bank. He streamed the shooting on Instagram, but the video has since been taken down.

Specifically, the shooting happened at 8:30 a.m. on April 10, regarding 30 minutes before the bank opened. Bank manager Rebecca Buchheit-Sims said the incident happened while employees were holding morning briefings both in person and online. Rebecca witnessed the shooting from her computer screen.

Louisville Deputy Sheriff Paul Humphrey said officers arrived at the Old National bank within three minutes of receiving the news and discovered Sturgeon was still attacking people.

The gunman Sturgeon was killed by police following a gunfight. The four victims who died on the morning of April 10 were identified as Joshua Barrick (40 years old), Juliana Farmer (45 years old), Tommy Elliott (63 years old) and James Tutt (64 years old). These are all managers in the bank, where the gunman used to work. Among the four executives shot dead by Sturgeon were Tommy Elliott, 63, a senior vice president, and Jim Tutt, 64, the bank’s chief market officer.

Authorities said nine other people were injured in the attack. In it, a 26-year-old officer had just graduated from the police academy 10 days ago when he was shot in the head.

Late on the night of April 10, police said that Deana Eckert (57 years old), one of the injured victims, had died, bringing the death toll to 5.

According to the source, the perpetrator had previously written to his parents and a friend regarding his shooting in the bank. However, it is not clear whether this letter was sent via paper or email or reached the recipient before or following the shooting.

On his personal page LinkedIn, Sturgeon said he practiced at Old National Bank for 3 consecutive summers from 2018 to 2020 before becoming a full-time employee in June 2021. Graduating from the University of Alabama in December 2020 with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in finance, former classmates say Sturgeon is a gentle person and shows no signs of BL tendencies.
