Concept: watchOS 10 with home screen widgets and Live Activities

Of the various bets for the WWDC23, some are almost certain. One is that Apple should present its new operating systems on the first day of the event. In this wave of updates, the future of watchOS always creates a lot of expectation in users and, mainly, in developers.

That’s why the designer Parker Ortolani published yesterday an authorial concept of how he imagines the tenth version of the system aimed at the Apple Watch. Among the changes proposed by him, it is worth highlighting the new home screen with the arrival of widgets and the resource live activities.

What if watchOS ditched the app splash screen and introduced a new, more customizable home screen with widgets and Live Activities, a fresh take on the ideas of Summaries and Docks…

Here’s a closer look at how this might work… and with apps de-emphasized, the side button might be reprogrammed to function as a shortcut for contacts, but reinvented to better suit the Digital Crown

In another publication, Ortolani further detailed his vision regarding a possible new home screen – this one composed of widgets, bringing back a new version of the feature summaries (Glances), already set aside by Apple in watchOS.

Here’s another example, but instead of all mixed up there would be all the widgets and Live Activities — effectively turning the home screen into Summaries.

More than 24 hours following publication, Ortolani’s concept already has almost 270,000 views. In addition, many users left praise for the designer, who said he was “impressed” with the acceptance. According to himit “shows how much people are looking forward to a big update”.

It is worth remembering that, just over a week ago, Mark Gurman (and Bloomberg) said that Apple would be planning “significant changes in the interface” of watchOS 10. Although he did not give many details, everything leads to believe that Apple will have to change this part of the system.
