At least nine workers collecting truffle mushrooms were killed in Syria, following their car hit a landmine in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Observatory said in a statement, yesterday, that since the beginning of last January, regarding 139 civilians have been killed in landmine explosions in Syria, including 30 children.
Truffle collectors in Syria are particularly vulnerable to falling victim to landmines, as well as to attacks by ISIS terrorists, who are present in remote areas. They have targeted truffle collectors in the past few weeks, kidnapping and killing a number of them.
International bodies estimate that there are up to 300,000 mines and unexploded ordnance scattered across Syria.
