With some 5,000 trees, the city of Río Segundo seeks to reforest part of its only green lung, known as El Médano. The area recently suffered a major fire.
As reported, the idea is to reforest seven hectares in that sector with carob trees. This is the area that corresponds to the municipality. Although El Médano is larger, much of it was acquired by private individuals.
The agreement, signed between the local municipality and the Baum tree factory, also includes planting in other areas of the city.
“The project includes the entrance to Río Segundo, the waterfront, the C45 route and part of El Médano,” he told The voice Adrián Pedraza, from the Agro-industrial Control and Inspection sub-directorate of the Municipality.
The first planting was carried out last Wednesday, at the entrance to the city. “There will be more, until completing the five thousand trees. The idea is to plant between 500 and 600 per hectare”, indicated from the municipality.
zero cost
Pedraza stressed that, thanks to the agreement signed with Baum, the trees had no cost to the city. “Save us regarding 4 million pesos,” he said.
And he said that the five thousand copies are already guaranteed for Río Segundo.
The official said that the plantations are carried out together with local institutions and neighbors.
How Baum works
Trees are made first. Then donations are received for one or for batches of trees. Whoever finances obtains a certificate and the possibility of following the path of their tree, until its location in a natural space. These certifications and traceability records are designed to be content that can be shared on social networks. Trees are paid for with purposeful pieces of content on social media: a digital reputation asset.
The firm has planted almost 40,000 native trees, and has more than 58,000 available, according to its website.
