Burnt bread: good or bad for your health?
When you get out of bed, for breakfast, it is customary to use the toaster to prepare tasty crispy sandwiches, garnished with jam or scrambled eggs. Just as we love to toast our bread during a Sunday barbecue, to accompany grilled meats. What a pleasure also to delight the children for a snack with good French toast prepared in an oil bath, with eggs and sugar. However you fancy it when or how you prepare it, there’s a dosage to consider: experts recommend never eating burnt bread. Yes, you know when it turns black and you have a weird taste (not very appetizing by the way) in your mouth!
Well, you should know that when they are overcooked, food releases a substance called “acrylamide”. It’s not a bad thing if it happens occasionally, but in the long term, from being exposed to it, it can cause you health problems, including effects on the nervous system. Some studies, carried out on animals, have even shown that this chemical substance was toxic and carcinogenic. Therefore, in order not to ingest it too often, it is better to refrain from consuming burnt food. Even if some do not always pay attention to it. It is true that we are not particularly wary of a slightly overcooked steak or fries with a brownish tint. Now you will take your precautions! And going back to our toast, if you’ve been distracted for a few seconds and it accidentally darkens, instead of forcing yourself to eat it in that state, there’s a simple alternative to get rid of the burnt part. Take a knife, gently scrape this area and clean the surface thoroughly before spreading the butter and jam. And this same trick can easily be applied to other foods, such as potatoes or chicken. Obviously, if the food is completely burnt and it smokes downright, it must end up in the trash. Not only is it dangerous for your health, but the taste will be terrible!

Is toasted bread really less fattening than plain bread? Does it have fewer calories?
It’s funny, because a lot of people have this belief: toasted bread is less caloric than normal fresh bread. So myth or reality? If it is eaten in small quantities, it is actually recommended in certain slimming diets, since it has the capacity to be satiating and to reduce the feeling of swelling. However, it would be wrong to believe that a toast would be less caloric than a slice of natural bread. And for good reason, grilling has no particular impact on carbohydrates or gluten. So its nutritional value does not change, but it can lower the glycemic index and reduce the urge to snack.

Toast or toast? What is the real difference?
Already, as you have noticed, the appearance is very different between the two. And it doesn’t stop there. Toast is a piece of bread that has been toasted (in the oven or toaster) or browned in a pan. While the rusk has a much more complex manufacturing process, which also requires real knowledge in baking. To explain briefly: the rusk is cooked twice so that it loses water and dries out sufficiently. But beware, although it is more digestive than toast, it is still more caloric. This will surely surprise you, but for 100 g of rusk, it takes 404 kcal, once morest 340 kcal for toast! Surprising, right?
