Hours later, the mother of the two Israeli sisters, Maya and Rina, died

The mother of two Israeli sisters who died last week in a shooting attack in the West Bank has succumbed to her injuries, medical officials said Monday.

Maya Dee, 15, and Rena Dee, 20, also British citizens, were killed on Friday when a suspected Palestinian gunman opened fire on their car.

Their mother was with them in the car and she was seriously injured.

The family of the two sisters held a memorial service for them, on Sunday, while their mother was still in a coma, following she was injured in the accident.

Liu, the sisters’ father, broke down in tears as he spoke to mourners who had gathered for the memorial service.

“The journey of salvation is slow, three steps forward, two steps back. With the loss of Maya and Rina, our world took two steps back. You were an inspiration to us, you loved us, and in turn we will love you forever,” their father said, extending his arm towards Kfar Etzion.

Their sister, Keren, expressed her regret at not being able to protect her younger sister.

“I would do anything to be in the car for you,” she said.

Israeli forces are still trying to track down the perpetrator of the attack.

After a year of escalating violence between Israel and the Palestinians, tensions run high as Ramadan and Passover coincide. Hours following the sisters were killed, an Italian tourist was killed in a car-ramming attack in Tel Aviv.

The two attacks heightened tensions between Israelis and Palestinians following Israeli police raids on Al-Aqsa mosque last week.
