The “Circle” functionality normally allows tweeting to users chosen upstream. But a new Twitter bug appears to broadcast these messages to all followers.
Since Elon Musk took the reins of Twitter, it’s a day, a novelty but also a day, a bug. Reported by many users, French and foreign, a malfunction of the social network seems to make tweets published in “Twitter Circles” appear as normal tweets.
Unveiled in March 2022, “Twitter Circles” allow users to post messages to a part of their loved ones, chosen upstream in the application settings. Tweets considered private therefore, except that some have been able to discover in recent days people “like” these tweets, when they are not part of their circle.
Algorithm problem
As reported by the media Spotters, it seems that the Twitter algorithm is the cause of this new problem. This would not be able to distinguish normal tweets from private tweets and would thus make it possible to broadcast both in users’ news feeds, in particular in the “For you” tab which selects the best tweets for each person.
Note that this malfunction only concerns tweets published via “Twitter Circles” and not tweets published by private accounts. However, it is important to be careful not to publish harmful messages on the social network.
With the numerous dismissals made by Elon Musk, the areas of security, moderation or innovation have been drastically deteriorated, thus increasing breakdowns, bugs and other problems related to the perpetual novelties wanted by the boss of the social network.
