For the first time, a pink flamingo nests in our country – in Burgas

For the first time in the history of Bulgaria, a nesting pink flamingo has been spotted on the territory of the country, reported the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds.

This happened yesterday in Burgas. About 80 birds are already laying their eggs in the Atanasovo lake. The newly formed colony is of regarding 600 individuals and probably the number of nests will increase in the coming days. “The flamingo is a sensitive bird to human presence. It is very important that there is no human movement in the lake itself during the nesting period,” say expert ornithologists. In recent years, the flamingo has overtaken cats and glarus in popularity, becoming a new emblem of our city. Therefore, the Municipality of Burgas began to include his image more and more frequently in its materials.
