Comoros on high alert

Through a circular, the Comorian ministry announced increased surveillance at air and sea borders. Rapid response teams have been deployed to isolate possible infected passengers, reports Mayotte the 1st.

In 88% of cases, the Marburg virus is fatal. Those infected are prone to high fevers and fatal bleeding.

Vaccine trials will begin under the aegis of the WHO.

WHO has dispatched specialists to Tanzania and Equatorial Guinea where two outbreaks of this virus have occurred. Of 8 people detected in Tanzania, 5 died. Uganda and Rwanda have also declared themselves on alert.
