Obviously, I especially recommend the M.2 format., more compact, faster (3600MB/s once morest 500MB/s in SATA). But if you already have SATA boxes or if space/speed is not a main criterion (or to place them in a DAS/NAS for example), the SATA format is sometimes more practical.
