Mauricio Macri, former president of the Nation and of Boca Juniors, confirmed today that he will participate in the next “Xeneize” elections in December since he is “very concerned” regarding the current situation of the club.
“I am going to participate because I am very concerned regarding what is happening in Boca,” Macri said in an interview with Rivadavia radio.
Although his intention to join the list that Andrés Ibarra will surely head was known, Macri ratified his determination to return to the politics of the La Ribera club.
“For twelve years we have built a solid, strong and respected institution throughout the world. We won 16 titles and we also conveyed professionalism and seriousness”, highlighted Macri, before criticizing the figure of the current vice president, Juan Román Riquelme.
“All this is in crisis due to the personalistic way that Juan Román Riquelme has to govern the club at will. I don’t believe in that,” he remarked.
However, the former president of the Nation clarified that he respects the figure of Riquelme as an idol in his playing days.
“I am not mistaken, one thing is the player, who I brought to Boca twice. And the other is to be a sports leader. The institution is always above the people ”, he pointed out.
On the other hand, Macri, the current head of the Fifa Foundation, ruled out his intention, for the moment, to run for the position currently held by Gianni Infantino.
“Being president of Fifa is very complex because you need the support of all the countries in the world. Today I feel honored by Infantino for having put me in the Foundation and I also have a relationship of trust with him. That’s as far as we go, ”he concluded.
