Lebanon filed a complaint with the UN Security Council on Saturday, seeking condemnation of Israeli aggression once morest its territory and forcing the Jewish state to stop violating its sovereignty.
In a statement, seen by Anadolu, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry condemned “the attacks perpetrated by Israel at dawn on Friday once morest areas of southern Lebanon, which endangered the lives of civilians and the security of the territory Lebanese”.
The statement said that Lebanon “has filed a complaint addressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on behalf of the Lebanese government, to the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and to the UN Security Council”.
In its complaint, the Foreign Ministry called for “condemning Israeli aggression in the strongest terms, compelling Israel to cease its violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, cease its threats and implement all its obligations in accordance to international resolution 1701”, specifies the same source.
Resolution 1701, issued in the summer of 2006, provides for a “cessation of hostilities” following a 33-day war between the “Hezbollah” group and the Israeli army, noting that one of the tasks of the United Nations Interim Force united in Lebanon, “UNIFIL” must monitor the application of this resolution.
At dawn on Friday, Israel launched airstrikes targeting agricultural areas in southern Lebanon, from where more than 30 missiles are believed to have been launched at Israel on Thursday.
No Lebanese party claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, while Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the operation, announcing that investigations are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
On the other hand, in the same complaint, the Foreign Ministry warned of “the seriousness and repercussions of the provocative Israeli practices in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and the violation of the sanctity of the holy places”, according to the same statement.
The night from Tuesday to Wednesday was marked by high tensions in the Al-Qibli prayer hall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, following Israeli police attacked worshipers.
