Barrett Hayton delivered the “Yotes” in overtime. He showed patience before demystifying Olle Eriksson Ek with a precise shot and making it 5-4.
The Swedish goalkeeper was also playing his first match on the Bettman circuit. He made 34 parries in defeat.
Thanks, or rather, because of this victory, the Coyotes have overtaken the Montreal Canadiens in the general classification of the National Hockey League, a month from the lottery for the draft.
The desert team has thus ended its drought of nine games without a win. The Ducks have extended their ordeal to 10 games.
Christian Fischer, Lawson Crouse, Clayton Keller scored the first goals for the Coyotes. Then, following watching Max Jones give the Ducks the lead, rookie Matias Maccelli forced overtime with 35 seconds left.
Adam Henrique netted a brace in the loss, hitting the 20-goal mark for the sixth time in his career. Ryan Strome also blacked out the score sheet.
The Panthers don’t give up
CH fans also had their eye on the duel between the Washington Capitals and the Florida Panthers. Thanks to a late goal from Matthew Tkachuk, they won 4-2.
Paul Maurice’s men have thus come closer to participating in the playoffs. They hold a one-point lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Their next first-round pick, it should be remembered, belongs to the Habs.
The eldest of the Tkachuk brothers took advantage of a hazardous outing by Charlie Lindgren, with exactly one minute left in the game, to thread the needle for the 40th time this season.
Among the members of the Panthers, only Carter Verhaeghe, author of his 41st net of the campaign on Saturday, has more goals in the bank.
Aaron Ekblad and Sam Reinhart, in an empty net, also put their shoulder to the wheel to lead the Florida team to a sixth consecutive win.
Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson flickered the red light in a losing cause. The last victory of the “Caps” dates back to March 23, once morest the poor Chicago Blackhawks.
Sorokin muzzles the Flyers
At UBS Arena, Ilya Sorokin was perfect on 27 shots for the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders scored a big 4-0 win.
The “Isles” thus follow the Panthers among the teams drafted, just ahead of the Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres.
Quebecer Samuel Bolduc scored his second career goal in the win. Scott Mayfield and Brock Nelson also eluded Carter Hart, who was kicked out of the game following two periods. Hudson Fasching completed the mark.
