The Director General of Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, held a meeting with the Director of the American Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, at his office in Rabat on Friday. Burns was accompanied by some of his key assistants and the US Ambassador to Morocco, Puneet Talwar.
This meeting between the two parties is part of their bilateral meetings aimed at following up on Mr. Hammouchi’s working visit to the US on 13 and 14 June 2022. During his visit, he met with Avril Haines, the director of American National Intelligence, William Burns, the Director of the CIA, and Christopher Wray, the Director of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The meeting between Hammouchi and Burns focused on assessing the security situation and the regional-level risks associated with it. The parties examined the security challenges and threats posed by the tense situations in certain global regions. They also discussed monitoring and preempting terrorism threats, particularly in the Sahelo-Saharan Region.
The visit confirms a strong and deep strategic cooperation and coordination in the security and intelligence fields between the DGST and the American Central Intelligence Agency. It also shows the common desire of the two parties to strengthen cooperation and consolidate bilateral coordination in countering terrorism and various security threats at the regional and international levels.
