The mother of a two-week-old baby called for emergency services on Thursday following noticing worrying symptoms. She had left the house to go shopping with friends and upon returning home, realized her infant was in poor health. Despite her initial lack of concern, she quickly noticed something was wrong with the baby’s breathing. The baby was rushed to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. The father has been charged and arrested for attempted murder, and claims the infant was accidentally injured from falling off the couch, though there are inconsistencies in his story. He is set to appear before a council chamber on Tuesday.
The SMUR was requested Thursday rue des Déportés in Courcelles (province of Hainaut) following a call from the mother of a baby born two weeks ago.
The latter, who had just left to go shopping in Charleroi with a couple of friends, discovered the worrying state of health of her infant on returning home. “Initially, she was not particularly worried since the baby was in her playpen and her husband was sleeping.
At one point, she noticed that something was wrong with the child’s breathing,” commented the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office. Transported to a hospital, the infant is in a critical state of health.
“He is still between life and death, according to the latest news received Friday evening.” The infant’s father was heard Friday, charged and placed under arrest warrant for attempted murder. “He should appear before the Charleroi council chamber on Tuesday.
The father evokes the accidental thesis, affirming that the infant would have been the victim of a fall from the couch. But there are variations in his statements,” said the prosecution.
This is a heartbreaking and concerning incident that highlights the importance of being vigilant and attentive when it comes to the health and safety of young children. Our thoughts are with the infant and their family during this difficult time. It is our hope that justice will be served and that measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
