“Hiccups” .. a warning sign of a serious disease

There is often no apparent reason behind the annoying small spasms “hiccups” or what is known as (hiccups), and it can be caused by stress, eating food, or drinking a soft drink.

However, in some rare cases, spasms (hiccups) can be a sign of something serious.

Cancer Research UK said harmless mouth spasms might be a sign of cancer.

A study published in the American Journal of Palliative Medicine and Analgesic confirmed that up to 40 percent of cancer patients suffer from hiccups.

Another study found that for one in 10 cancer patients, cramping can last for more than 48 hours.

The Atlantic magazine reported that people with cancer in their chest, throat, or head, anywhere in the body along the hiccup pathway, may experience it.

But medications prescribed to cancer patients, including chemotherapy drugs, steroids and opioids, can also cause them to suffer from it.

What is hiccups or hiccups?

Hiccups happen when your diaphragm gets spasm during the process of breathing, according to Cancer Research UK.

The diaphragm is a large, dome-shaped muscle located under your lungs that contracts rhythmically to help you breathe.

Two things happen that make your body make that famous spasm sound:

Your diaphragm contracts and pulls down between your normal breaths, sucking air in.

Immediately following this, the top of the windpipe (windpipe) closes briefly, to prevent more air from entering, and this is when you will make a sound.

You can’t control unwanted hiccups but in most cases the condition tends to go away on its own.
