“Carbonate rocks on Earth may be good for preserving fossilized life forms. If biosignatures were present in this part of Jezero crater, it might be a rock like this that might very well hold its secretssaid Katie Stack Morgan, deputy project scientist for Perseverance at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
The enigma that scientists are trying to decipher is how the climate of Mars worked when, as it is supposed, was covered in part or in its entirety -as has been speculated- by liquid water.
This latest sample was safely stored in a sample tube in the belly of the six-wheeled rover which will continue to climb the Jezero sedimentary fan towards the next bend in the dry river bed, a place the science team calls “Castell Henllys”. ”.
