Danger is imminent – Gewessler and Karner must act quickly and effectively in the interests of all parties involved
Vienna (OTS) – The liberal traffic spokesman Secretary General NAbg. In a parliamentary question to the Green Transport Minister Gewessler and ÖVP Interior Minister Karner, Christian Hafenecker, MA would like to clarify how a claim involving a vehicle with a Ukrainian license plate is to be handled whose green insurance card has expired following a year in Austria. “The basis for this are incidents from Germany, where, according to media reports, there are already over a hundred such cases. The International Insurance Card (“Green Card”) is only valid for one year when entering another European country. After that, there is no longer any valid liability insurance cover, ”explained Hafenecker.
“This in turn means that victims (in Germany) are left with the costs following an accident and can only count on the support of traffic victim assistance, a special fund financed by insurers, in exceptional cases. The same applies to the “green card” in Austria. Conversely, this means that similar cases will probably also occur in Austria. Because it can be assumed that many Ukrainian cars have been in Germany for more than twelve months and some of them do not have sufficient insurance cover,” the FPÖ traffic spokesman continued.
“Now there are many questions to be answered regarding how to deal with this precarious situation, because it should not be taken lightly. Apart from damage to property, which can also amount to enormous amounts, personal injury is probably the hardest thing for those affected to cope with, especially if you bear all the costs. Danger is imminent here and action must be taken quickly and effectively in the interest of all those involved!” Hafenecker demanded that the responsible Ministers Gewessler and Karner answer his parliamentary questions as soon as possible.
