Several residents in Seraing have reported a strong and unbearable smell of gas coming from the sewers. This has caused some to feel headaches and nausea. The city has responded by publishing a notice on its Facebook page, explaining that a product containing an odorous substance was mistakenly discharged into the sewers by a local company in the nearby Flémalle area. The city assures that there is no danger to the health of residents and advises them to ventilate their homes regularly. The authorities are also in contact with the municipality of Flémalle to find a solution to the problem.
A “smell of gas” which, according to some, would even give you headaches and nausea. An “abominable and unbearable stench”. These are the comments that we can read on social networks, received from several Serésians this Friday morning.
And the City to give explanations to its inhabitants, in particular through a notice published on the administration’s Facebook page: “For several days, residents of Jemeppe and Flémalle have been complaining of a strong smell of gas coming from sewers. This is due to a product mistakenly dumped into the sewers by a company located in Flémalle. Said product contains a substance which allows the gas to be odorous (the gas being basically colorless and odorless). Each time it comes in contact with water, the smell becomes stronger and spreads through the pipes. »
And to further reassure the population: “The City of Seraing wishes to reassure regarding these fumes: there is no danger to the health of citizens. It invites those concerned to ventilate their homes regularly. »
At the same time, the Seresian authorities are also in contact with the municipality of Flémalle (municipality in which the private company responsible for the smell is located) so that it can quickly find a solution.
In conclusion, while the strong smell of gas in Seraing may have caused concern among residents, it has been identified as a result of a mistake made by a private company in a neighboring municipality. The authorities have reassured the public that there is no danger to their health and have advised them to ventilate their homes regularly. Efforts are also being made to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We hope that the situation will be resolved soon and that the residents of Seraing can breathe easy once once more.
