Sekou Doumbouya crowned G-League champion with the Delaware Blue Coats

The Delaware Blue Coats, a team affiliated with the Philadelphia Sixers in the NBA, won the G-League title on Thursday by winning 114-110 on the ground of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (the reserve of the Houston Rockets). They won this series 2-0 in the best of three matches following a first victory won two days earlier at home in Wilmington (134-120). Blue Coats guard Jaden Springer (20) finishes MVP of the finals following scoring 42 points on Tuesday and 21 points on Thursday.

Former Detroit Pistons prospect, Frenchman Sekou Doumbouya, has not tasted a single minute of play in his two games. Arrived in November in Delaware, the French hoped to revive following an injury contracted with the South Bay Lakers (G-League) which had kept him away from the parquet floors for several months in 2022. “I gained a lot of weight, hoping to be able to play once more in February,” he explained to The Team in January. Doumbouya has only made eight appearances for the Blue Coats this season, where he did not convince his coach Coby Karl.

Quite the opposite of leader Mac McClung (24), who had an exceptional season in Delaware, punctuated by 30 points and 8 assists in the final on Thursday. Recent winner of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in February, the player has a “two way” contract with the Sixers, with whom he might make his debut on April 7 once morest Atlanta.
