Punishment in tax process was not much higher than Covidhilfe

One of the largest cases of tax evasion in the Salzburg gastronomy shows that the judiciary still sees this as a minor offence. The reclaim of Covidhilfe is not secured.

With the conviction of a Pinzgau drinks dealer and his co-partner in March, the procession of one of the biggest tax crimes in Salzburg for decades ended. For ten years, the wholesaler helped around 15 restaurateurs to evade taxes on a large scale – more than 4.2 million euros, as the tax investigators found out following around three years of investigations since 2019.

In total, fines of around three million euros were imposed, half of which were conditional. So 1.5 million euros have to be paid. Of that …
