Al-Aqsa Mosque trespass by the Israeli army; Condemned by Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the actions of the Israeli army that stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, attacked the worshipers there and arrested many people. The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated that Israel is violating international principles regarding the sanctity of places of worship and religious respect.

During the month of spiritual purity and prayer, the invasion of the mosque compound and the arrest undermine the peace efforts on the Palestinian issue. Saudi Arabia will continue to support efforts to end the occupation and achieve a just solution.

A comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue is needed. International media including CNN reported that the Israeli police attacked dozens of worshipers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem on Wednesday morning. Following the incident, there is a heavy curfew across the occupied West Bank.

Jordan and Egypt, which have recently made U.S.-backed efforts to reduce tensions between Israel and Palestine, issued separate statements condemning the incident.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Jordan stated yesterday that Israel is committing a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and that efforts at the Arab state leadership level are continuing to stop it. Jordan accused Israel of changing the historical and legal status of Jerusalem through such measures.
