An Iraqi judicial delegation headed by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, arrived in Damascus yesterday, on a two-day visit, during which he will meet with its senior officials, and aims to develop judicial and legal cooperation relations between the two countries.
The delegation was received at Damascus International Airport by the Minister of Justice, Judge Ahmed Al-Sayed, and a number of judges.
In a statement to reporters, Zaidan stressed the importance of the visit to enhance cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries in the judicial field, as it is a message of solidarity with the Syrian leadership and people.
Zidan explained that the visit program includes conducting judicial discussions with Syrian judges, and discussing the possibility of concluding a new judicial agreement between the two countries, pointing out that the “Arab Riyadh Agreement” signed in 1983, which links judicial cooperation between Arab countries, needs to be updated, and this update can take place. through bilateral agreements.
In turn, Minister Al-Sayyed considered that the visit comes within the framework of consolidating and strengthening judicial and legal cooperation between Syria and Iraq, stressing that through it a new draft agreement will be discussed to enhance this cooperation, noting that the “Arab Riyadh Agreement” is well implemented between the two countries in the field of extradition of criminals, and others. of issues.
The Iraqi delegation includes the head of the Public Prosecution Authority, Judge Najm Abdullah Al-Ahmad, the head of the Judicial Supervision Authority, Judge Laith Jabr Hamza, the head of the Rusafa Court of Appeal, Judge Imad Khudair Muhammad Al-Jabri, the head of the Karkh Court of Appeal, Judge Khaled Taha Al-Mashhadani, and the director general of the Judicial Guards Department, Rahim Abdul Hassan.
Later yesterday, Al-Sayyid and the President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council agreed to study a draft judicial agreement for judicial cooperation between the two countries.
This came during the visit made by Zaidan and the Iraqi delegation accompanying the Ministry of Justice, and the media center of the Iraqi Judicial Council stated in a statement, that “Zidan held discussions with Mr., the president and members of the Syrian Court of Cassation, the head of the judicial inspection and the Attorney General, where it was agreed to study a draft judicial agreement for judicial cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
