In this regard, Dr. Amr Attia, Professor of Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Institute, said that cancer is a serious disease that some patients may not survive.

Attia added that the damage caused by cancer in the body varies from one patient to another, according to its type, extent of spread, and the date of discovery of the infection and the start of treatment.

The professor of oncology emphasized that cancer of all kinds controls the affected organ and prevents it from performing its vital functions, in addition to the malignant tumor secreting some harmful substances, whose effect may extend to the rest of the body’s organs through lymph cells, and disrupt them from functioning, such as the brain, heart and lungs.

Dr. Fouad Abdel Shaheed, professor of oncology surgery at the National Cancer Institute, agreed with him, stressing that the complications of cancer in the body depend on the affected organ.

Abdul Shaheed pointed out that age, health status, and the extent of the tumor spread in the body are among the factors that also control the extent of damage to the patient, which may reach the point of sudden death.

The professor of oncology identified the effect of some types of cancer on the body as follows:

– Leukemia: destroys immunity and causes bleeding and acute anemia, which leads to a decline in blood circulation.

Lung cancer: causes lung failure, which puts the patient at risk of suffocation.

Breast cancer: It may spread to the lung, causing suffocation, as well as affecting the bone marrow and blood.

Pancreatic cancer: It can spread to the bones, attack the nerves, and cause weight loss and poor circulation.

Liver cancer: causes hepatic and renal failure.

Cancers of the gastrointestinal tract: may lead to intestinal obstruction, which may cause the patient to lose the ability to eat and prevent him from excreting, in addition to the possibility of suffocation.
