China comments on Taiwan region leader’s US visit

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the transit visit to the US by the leader of China’s Taiwan region, Tsai Ing-wen.

The statement states that, ignoring the efforts and warnings issued repeatedly by the authorities in Beijing, Washington allowed the transit of the leader of the Chinese region of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen. During the transit, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other officials and congressmen had contacts with Tsai Ing-wen. This practice seriously violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, seriously undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, sending erroneous signals to Taiwan’s pro-independence forces, actions to which the Chinese side expresses firm opposition and strongly condemns. vehemence.

The principle of the existence of one China is a consensus of the international community and a fundamental norm in international relations, being, at the same time, the premise and basis for the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and the USA.

The Taiwan issue touches the core of China’s core interests, being the first red line in China-US relations. The attempt to achieve Taiwan’s independence is incompatible with peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, just like between water and fire, being a dead end. In response to the serious actions of collusion between the US and Taiwan, China will take firm measures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
