President of the Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Christodoulides made an official visit to Egypt yesterday and met with the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Fileleftheros newspaper wrote that Christodoulides chose Egypt for his second official visit abroad following he was elected president, and thus he wanted to show the importance of cooperation between Southern Cyprus and Egypt.
The newspaper noted that Christodoulides and El Sisi gave the message that the two countries would continue to walk hand in hand and cooperate to combat the provocations both in the region and in the wider area.
According to the news, Christodoulides, in his statements here, said that Egypt was the second country he visited following Greece and that this visit had a fundamental importance beyond a symbolic visit.
Christodoulides stated that his visit to Egypt, which he described as a strategic partner, reflects their political will to further strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.
In his meeting with El Sisi, Christodoulides pointed out the importance of energy cooperation and that this cooperation strengthens the ties between the two countries and stated that they decided to hold the next summit meeting between the two countries in September in Southern Cyprus.
According to the news, Christodoulides stated that Egypt is the first country with which Southern Cyprus has started such cooperation and that he wishes to develop these meetings with the participation of Greece.
Christodoulides stated that in the current conjuncture, considering the developments both in the region and in the international arena, the necessity of dealing with all these issues within the framework of respect for international law and the UN Convention comes to the fore.
According to the newspaper, El Sisi pointed out the strategically important relations and cooperation between the two countries, and said that the relations between the two countries had improved substantially during the former President of the Greek Cypriot Administration, Nikos Anastasiades.
Stating that he discussed the energy issue, the transportation of Cypriot natural gas to the liquefaction facilities in Egypt, the electricity connection between the two countries and green energy with Christodoulidis, El Sisi noted that Egypt observes cooperation with Southern Cyprus in the development and productive sectors.
Underlining that countries should respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries within the framework of international law, El Sisi stated that Egypt supports Southern Cyprus regarding the Cyprus problem and tries to contribute to the solution of the Cyprus problem through UN Security Council resolutions.
