Apple and its partners already use 13.7GW of clean energy

In what is described as an “immense challenge” by the CEOChief executive officeror executive director.”>1 and AppleTim Cook, the company and its partners around the world have increased their use of renewable energy by nearly 30% and continue to aim for carbon neutrality until 2030.

After encouraging its suppliers to accelerate the decarbonization of their manufacturing lines, Apple today announced that more than 250 companies are working to achieve this goal.

We’re investing in new green technologies and partnering with companies to bring more clean energy to the world. The scale of this challenge is immense—but so is our determination to meet it.

Apple revealed that 13,7 gigawatts of renewable energy are being used by its suppliers in 28 countries — representing more than 85% of the company’s production.

In addition, more than 40 manufacturing partners have joined the Supplier Clean Energy Program from Apple last year. Maçã works with these companies to identify carbon reductions and also provide free learning resources and training on how to decarbonize various activities.

In the United States, there are 27 companies in the Apple program, including some like Bemis Associates, which has achieved 100% renewable energy for all Apple-related production. Coherent Corp is approaching that total with a green utility program, and others are making power purchase agreements (PPAs) for solar and wind projects across the country.

In addition, the company said it has already invested more than $3.2 billion of nearly $5 billion in green bonds to date. Some 59 projects supported by the investment are expected to reduce more than 13.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
