Cannes Film Festival organizers announced that Johnny Depp’s first live-action film since the highly publicized libel case once morest his ex-wife Amber Heard has been selected as the opening film for the festival, which opens next month in France.
The French-language film, “Jeanne du Barry,” stars director and actress Jayoen Le Pescot, better known as Mayoine, as Jeanne Picot, a woman who rises from poverty to join the inner circles of King Louis XV. Depp plays the role of the king in the film, which will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 16.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor has not appeared in cinema or television since the trial ended in June 2022. He appeared in surprise short clips at the MTV Video Music Award and Rihanna’s fashion show.
The American actor is trying to resume his film career following winning his legal battle in the United States with Heard, who accused him of mistreating her. Depp denied hitting Heard or any other woman.
