New Mario game to be shown in upcoming Nintendo Directs, suggests Miyamoto

The creator of the iconic plumber Mario Bros., Shigeru Miyamoto, suggested fans of the character enshrined in video games to stay tuned in future editions of the event Nintendo Direct, when the company usually presents its news.

In an interview with Variety, Miyamoto was asked regarding a possible new Mario game, given the context that the new character movie is finally here and the Super Nintendo World theme park was also completed.

However, Miyamoto didn’t give a straight answer, as expected. But the designer laughed and said, “Well, I can’t say anything in advance, but we have a Nintendo Direct every two or three months, so keep an eye out for those, please.”

It is good to remember that Miyamoto had already spoken regarding the subject in another interview granted in February. At the time, Shigeru said that Nintendo “is always working on Mario”. Fans expected an announcement on Mario Day, March 10th, but nothing came of it.

Check out the interview below:

The last unpublished game of the character released was Super Mario Odyssey, six years ago, in 2017. After that, the plumber received Bowser’s Fury, a minor adventure that came as a bonus in the relaunch of Super Mario 3D World, in 2021.

Finally, there was a rumor last year that an unreleased 2D title would be in production, but the game would feature a completely different visual style from the rest of the franchise. We can only wait for official news in the coming months.
