Superhero films began to become one of the genres enjoyed by film lovers around the world since 2008. Marvel and Iron Man became one of the early foundations of that era.
After more than two decades, there have been dozens of superhero-themed films and series that have entertained the public. Now there is a phenomenon called Superhero Fatigue or the public’s boredom with the stories of these superheroes.
This was stated by James Gunn in an interview with the Rolling Stones. The man who has been involved in two major studios specializing in superhero films said that the style of speech or storyline of superhero characters has bored the public.
Even though it presents epic scenes from the battles of iconic characters like Superman and Batman, it’s still not enough for today’s audiences. They need storylines and emotional games that are strong enough to be comfortable watching them.
“I think Superhero Fatigue is real. It’s not a problem with the superhero (character) but the style of storytelling. We love Superman, we love Batman, we love Iron Man because they are amazing characters who have found a place in our hearts. “
“And if they (only present) a nonsense story on the screen then (audience) will feel bored. But I feel the biggest challenge of this is created by the emotional ties that underlie the story,” said the DC boss.
The Superhero Fatigue phenomenon has been felt by DC and Marvel in recent years. Maybe only a few films have achieved great success, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the rest have failed to match the success achieved by previous stories.
One of the most recent examples is Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania which became the least successful film of the franchise. Some of the formulas presented there were apparently not enough to buy public interest.
Now DC is facing a similar challenge following Black Adams and Shazam! Fury of the Gods which is also overshadowed by the same thing. The public is still waiting for the steps taken by James Gunn and Peter Safran to completely overhaul DC.
