The United States Space Agency (NASA) launched the Perseverance rover towards Mars in order to collect more scientific information regarding the soil of the red planet. The equipment landed at the scheduled location in 2021 starting its mission to send images and other materials to Earth scientists.
Contrary to what many believe, the rover is not alone on Mars and works in partnership with the Ingenuity helicopter, also sent by NASA to record aerial photos of the planet through NavCam, the photographic sensor that equips the drone. Last Tuesday (4), Ingenuity carried out a record flight in Martian territory, as stated on the agency’s website.
According to the North American organ, the helicopter yesterday carried out the flight number 49 registering the impressive speed of 23.4 km/h being the fastest vehicle in the territory of Mars. This result easily surpasses the previous record achieved on the 25th flight in which Ingenuity reached 19.8 km/h.
In addition to speed, the aircraft also stood out in flight altitude reaching 16 meters in relation to the ground once morest 14 meters (previous record) obtained on December 3, 2022 on flight 35. In the case of yesterday’s experiment, the helicopter traveled the distance of 282 m during a route lasting 142.7 seconds.
According to NASA data, in total Ingenuity has already traveled on Martian soil the incredible distance of 11,220 meters, that is, regarding 11.2 km.
