The recent Tour of Flanders in Oudenaarde attracted a large crowd, and fortunately, no one was harmed when a Ferrari collided with a small Fiat. Marie witnessed the incident and attempted to call the police, but the Ferrari driver fled and insulted her. Sadly, she mightn’t remember the license plate. However, the driver later crashed into a machine while attempting to escape and was caught by the police. They found him to be driving under the influence of alcohol and charged him with hit-and-run.
The tour of Flanders last Sunday gathered many people in Oudenaarde. Fortunately, when the facts happened, the runners had already crossed the finish line. It’s just following a Ferrari driver collided with a small Fiat. Marie saw the car arrive on her, she tells the Nieuwsblad.
“When I came out and said I was going to call the police, they yelled at me,” says Marie. “Why call the police? You with your stupid little car,” replied the driver of the Ferrari who fled immediately following that.
Unfortunately, Marie doesn’t have the reflex to remember the Ferrari’s license plate, but luckily for her, it won’t be the only crime of the man in the racing car who will get stuck a little further! Indeed, during his escape, the driver, who is also an entrepreneur from Aalst, took a pedestrian path and hit a machine that was there. He got stuck there.
“Fortunately he hit this machine. Otherwise, it would have entered the market and it would have been a disaster. The police were therefore able to easily intercept him. The man tested positive for alcohol. His license was withdrawn and he will also be tried for the hit-and-run.
In conclusion, it’s a relief that no one was hurt during the hit-and-run incident caused by the Ferrari driver following the Tour of Flanders. The driver may have thought he might get away, but justice eventually caught up with him. Let’s hope incidents like this won’t happen once more in the future and that everyone will put safety first when driving on the road. Stay safe!
