“The prosecutor [del distrito de Manhattan, Alvin] Bragg has just illegally leaked the different points, and the complete information, regarding the pathetic accusation once morest me,” the former president wrote on his social network.
Former US President Donald Trump will be placed under arrest on Tuesday and informed that he has been charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, Yahoo News reported, citing a source who has been briefed on the proceedings for the appearance.
Trump will not be put in handcuffs, put in a cell, or taken a mugshot, typical procedures even for politicians, until a judge rules on pre-trial conditions, the source said.
A Trump spokesman later commented that the former president’s legal team has not seen the allegation or been informed of the details. Likewise, Trump himself responded with a post on his social network, TruthSocial.
“The prosecutor [del distrito de Manhattan, Alvin] Bragg just illegally leaked the various points, and full information, regarding the pathetic accusation once morest me,” Trump wrote.
“I know the reporter and he unfortunately does too. This means that he must be immediately charged. Now, if he really wants to clean up his reputation, he will do the honorable thing and, as District Attorney, he will accuse himself, ”he stressed.
For his part, Joe Tacopin, the former president’s lawyer, also stressed that Trump will not be handcuffed during his appearance before the New York Court, but the Prosecutor’s Office will try to make the most of the situation to get a media ‘show’.
Trump’s defense expects the former president’s court appearance to be “standard and business,” lasting no more than half an hour.
“Many of the questions have no answers. I don’t know how it will be, except that the atmosphere will be like that of a circus. However, I hope that the trial part will proceed in a normal and professional manner. I also hope that we will conclude the stay (in court) in half an hour,” Tacopin said.
A New York grand jury voted on March 30 to formally indict the former president for allegedly paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 in exchange for her silence regarding their extramarital sexual relationship in 2006.
Trump might be charged with felony falsifying business records and violating campaign finance laws with the payment. The former president is scheduled to appear on April 4 before a Manhattan court to read the charges once morest him.
The Manhattan grand jury decision marks the first time a former president has been indicted in a criminal matter.
The indictment or conviction would not legally prevent the Republican politician from running for president once more, since not having a criminal record is not among the criteria established by the US Constitution to determine who is eligible to be president.
