FH of the BFI Vienna and HTW Berlin are planning a joint master’s degree in European economic policy

Vienna/Berlin (OTS) A unique program awaits students: The new master’s program combines the expertise of two renowned universities and imparts in-depth knowledge at the interface of business and politics with a focus on Europe. Graduates receive a degree from both universities.

As part of the strategic partnership launched last year, the University of Applied Sciences of the BFI Vienna and the HTW Berlin have now developed a joint master’s degree in European economic policy. The program is to be offered for the first time in the 2023/24 winter semester.

As part of the curriculum, students at the BFI Vienna University of Applied Sciences spend a full semester at the HTW Berlin and vice versa. Thanks to this innovative structure of the course, you can gain intercultural experience during your studies and expand your international network through exchanges with lecturers and students from the other university.

Sharpening our students’ awareness of the opportunities that arise in an international community that thinks in a network has been and still is a central concern of the BFI Vienna University of Applied Sciences since it was founded. The big questions regarding climate change, digitization and globalization can only be solved at an international level. The innovative course in European Economic Policy imparts the necessary know-how to help shape the future of Europe“, says Eva Schiessl-Foggensteiner, Managing Director of the University of Applied Sciences of the BFI Vienna.

Establishing cross-border cooperation in research and teaching and enabling our students to gain experience abroad is part of our internationalization strategy. The new joint course in European economic policy therefore underlines the profile of our university, and we are very pleased regarding the cooperation with the FH des BFI Wien. In addition, Vienna and Berlin, as capital cities with the headquarters of numerous international organizations, offer ideal conditions for practical teaching and research“, says Tilo Wendler, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and International Affairs at HTW Berlin.

Solving the challenges of tomorrow together

The international course focuses on the areas of economics and political science, with a focus on European integration. The course imparts practice-oriented knowledge of EU institutions, actors and processes: These form the basis for the analysis and assessment of current and future economic policy challenges such as climate change, globalization and social inequality as well as future trends such as digitization, changing working environments and diversity.

Graduates have a wide range of career opportunities: their expertise is in demand in national and European institutions as well as politically-related organisations, research and consulting organisations, political and management consultants as well as internationally active companies with a connection to Europe.

Through the interdisciplinary, multi-paradigmatic approach in the international environment of the two universities, our joint degree program creates the optimal basis for finding future-oriented solutions to questions of European integrationexplains Elisabeth Springler, head of the European Economic Policy course at the BFI Vienna University of Applied Sciences.
