Offer medical assistance in dying to people suffering from mental disorders?
Before authorizing persons whose sole criterion for obtaining medical assistance in dying is mental illness, the federal government agrees to ensure that the health care systems of all provinces and territories have guidelines and standards very clear.PHOTO : iStock
The federal government has postponed until March 2024 the expansion of access to medical assistance in dying for people with mental illness. Journalist Rose St-Pierre collected the moving testimonies of two women directly concerned. These words also raise many questions; interview and possible answers with Emmanuelle Marceau, ethicist, research professor at the School of Public Health at the University of Montreal.
