16,250 non-residents are prohibited from renewing their work permits; Eligibility certificates will be checked

Kuwait City: Renewal of work permits of 16,250 expatriates working in various sectors in Kuwait has been suspended. The decision belongs to the Public Authority for Manpower of the country. The work permits of those in the construction sector, infrastructure development, engineering, various professions in the financial sector, banking and accounting will be withheld.

In addition to those who presented fake certificates for work, there are restrictions on renewing work permits, including those who have inconsistencies between their current job position and educational qualification, and those who are recruited in the name of fake companies and come to Kuwait and later work for other companies on the same visa. Restrictions have been placed on renewal of work permits until the educational qualifications are clarified and the work performed and educational qualifications are found to be correct.

Currently, those doing engineering work in Kuwait have to follow procedures including verification of qualification certificates. There were earlier reports that such tests will be introduced for jobs in the financial sector, including accounting, and other jobs as a next step. At the same time, the authorities have not released information regarding the countries from which expatriates whose work permits are now blocked are from.
