In the strengthening of conservatism, installed in the Brazilian scenario through Jair Bolsonaro, certain perverse symptoms are being felt little by little, like an epidemic of serious diseases. Some recent episodes, such as the violence of a 13-year-old boy in a São Paulo school, stabbing teachers and students, put them in the international headlines with the highlight of unenviable anomalies. That seemed like an outbreak of madness, despite being accompanied by traces of racism and revenge as a result of bullying. The teacher who immobilized him and prevented the worst, consulted by the press, expressed the size of her pain. “I feel sorry for the boy” – she said, when it was expected, on the contrary, that she would only communicate her repudiation. Good sign. A sign that, in the midst of tragedy, despite everything, good feelings persist.
However, the hatred taken to school, unfortunately, does not represent an isolated case. Keeping the due proportions, there is something of him in the CCJ of the Chamber of Deputies when receiving Flávio Dino, our Minister of Justice, when he was confronted with young people whose nerves were on edge, with blood dripping from their canine teeth. They had attended the event on a war footing, knives sharpened in their teeth, to reap the credit for their feisty behavior. Commanded by the Ex from a distance, they intended to demonstrate that they would live up to their old and violent speeches at the time of the playpen. Undoubtedly, they did not expect to find a superior opponent, not because of the thirst for revenge or the vehemence of speeches, but because of experience and skill in argumentation. In four hours, the length of time the session lasted, a disgrace for Brazilian politics, Flávio Dino dismantled the plots of lies and returned the traps to their owners, who, uncomfortable, had to leave the enclosure in great frustration. The Minister proved capable of dealing with the mob of indignant people, supporters of torture like his boss, and putting them on the defensive, as if they were nothing more than misguided youths. The horror film ended surprisingly in a docile and predictable happy ending. However, violence carried out to such an extent runs the risk of degenerating, as occurred in São Paulo. Of the facts, save the example of the physical education teacher who controlled the attacker, without losing humanity. After all, on both sides of the coin, she seems to be right. She was not intimidated and did not lose the feeling of sadness that comes over us when, feeling that we have not made a mistake, we nevertheless declare an unshakable affection for humanity.
For those who believe that human actions are asserted by force, without the counterweight of sensitivity, war is inevitable. This is an acute difference that can be seen in the contrast between then and now, in the Lula X Bolsonaro version. Disgust, in the latter, only affects him through an adversity that cuts his skin, because the pain of others does not effectively affect him. Lula, on the contrary, takes a stand in favor of the underprivileged, is in solidarity with them and acts to lessen their misfortune. In the long run, solidarity looms large. A few obstacles are not enough to bend your spine. It takes more, much more, to truly understand what we are.
