Legal Medicine issued the figures for the accumulated between January and February of fatal and non-fatal violence in the department of Boyacá, where homicides, suicides and traffic accidents are reported, the latter being the one with the highest number of deaths reported.
“14 homicides were registered, the 2 cities with the highest number are Puerto Boyacá with 3 and Gachantivá with 3; 10 suicides, 18 accidentally, and as we have always said, the most worrisome for Boyacá are the deaths in traffic accidents, which are now 24 this year,” said the director of the GRIMAP ESAP Boyacá research group, Jacinto Pineda.
According to Professor Jacinto, in general, fatal violence this year tends to decrease when compared to the same two-month period of the previous year, 2022.
Likewise, Pineda indicated that in the case of violence there is no shortage, that is, they do not end in death, There are 114 cases of alleged sexual offense between January and February, 431 cases of interpersonal violence and 298 intrafamily, 125 injured in traffic accidents and 12 accidentally injured. “In relation to 2022 there are no significant statistical changes, in general the behavior of violence does not have much variation when compared to last year,” he said.
“In Colombia regarding 50% of violent deaths are reflected in homicides, in the case of Boyacá it is around 25% showing a department with a low rate. The same does not happen with non-fatal violence, because in sexual violence and in interpersonal violence we have higher rates than in the country”, explained Professor Jacinto Pineda.
