Russia and Türkiye have developed routes for the extradition of citizens in transit

Russia, together with Turkey, worked out the ways of transit transportation during extradition through third countries. This was reported in the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia.

“Thanks to close cooperation with the competent authorities of Romania, it was possible to achieve a decision on the extradition of the attacker, who was delivered to Moscow in January 2023 by employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the NCB of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in transit through the territory of the Republic of Turkey. The practice of transit transportation of extradited persons through third countries has been worked out with the competent authorities of this state and is actively used,” the press service of the department said. “RIA Novosti”.

The department explained that the work on extradition, including the development of new routes, is carried out “taking into account the emerging realities.” The press service added that Russia continues to fulfill its obligations to extradite citizens to other countries.

The day before, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that in the first quarter of 2023, Western countries refused 19 extradition requests from Russia. The department claims that eight of them were issued “for political reasons”: two refusals each from Italy and Poland, one each from Austria, Bulgaria, Germany and Romania.
