[스포츠한국 김민지 기자] In the 2022-2023 English Premier League (EPL), which has entered the end of the season, the wind of replacing the ‘commander tower’ is blowing.
Chelsea FC announced the resignation of head coach Graham Porter (47) through the club website on the 3rd (Korean time). “Coach Porter left the team,” he said. “Coach Porter took Chelsea to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and faced Real Madrid. I am grateful to Director Porter for his efforts.”
Porter, who took over at Chelsea in September last year, was sacked due to poor performance. While he took the baton, Chelsea recorded 7 wins, 5 draws and 8 losses in the regular league, and the ranking, which was 6th at the time of his appointment, fell to 11th with 10 games left until the end of the season.
Following Porter’s resignation, Chelsea coach Bruno Saltor will take over as acting manager and lead the team.
Leicester City announced the sacking of manager Brandon Rodgers (50) a day ahead of Chelsea.
Leicester City said on the club website on the 2nd, “Director Rogers has stepped down from the managerial position under an agreement with the club.”
Rogers, who took over as Leicester City manager in February 2019, won the 2020-2021 FA Cup and the 2021 FA Community Shield. However, they suffered from sluggishness this season and were pushed to 19th place, the relegation zone, with 10 games left until the end of the season.
With Rodgers sacked, Leicester City are led by Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell for the time being.
Meanwhile, last month, Tottenham Hotspur, where Son Heung-min is active, parted ways with manager Antonio Conte.
