During the period of March 23 to April 20, Ramadan is being observed this year. In light of this, we took our microphone to a Fedasil center where certain measures are being implemented to facilitate the integration of newcomers in Belgium, despite the authority being secular. We visited the Auderghem center which is specifically dedicated to the reception of Mena or unaccompanied foreign minors who are underage asylum seekers arriving without any family member in Belgian territory. The director, one of the educators, and several young individuals were kind enough to speak with Charlotte Verbruggen and share their experiences with us.

CThis year, Ramadan takes place from March 23 to April 20. On this occasion, we went with our microphone to a Fedasil centre, because even if the authority is secular, things are put in place in certain centers during this period to facilitate the integration of people who have recently arrived in Belgium. We passed the gates of the center of Auderghem which is reserved for the reception of Mena, unaccompanied foreign minors. That is to say, young asylum seekers aged under 18 who arrive without family on Belgian soil. Charlotte Verbruggen handed the microphone to the director, one of the educators and several young people.

The Fedasil centre in Auderghem serves as an example of how secular authorities can still facilitate the integration of asylum seekers and unaccompanied minors. We hope this “Grand angle” segment offers a glimpse into the experiences of these individuals and sheds light on the challenges they face. And as always, be sure to check out “About” podcast for daily news selections, available on various platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music.
