GOVERNOR ACTIVELY PARTICIPATES IN THE SUMMIT OF GOVERNORS IN CUSCO

Next summit will be in Lima provinces in the month of October

The regional governor of Loreto, Dr. René Chávez Silvano, participated in the first Annual Summit of Regional Governors held in the city of Cusco, in order to articulate efforts to combat hunger in the country and especially in each region. “There must be equity, that is why it is essential that each region invest in production, agriculture and reactivate all agro-forestry systems, we are on that path because it is important for us to reduce anemia and combat chronic malnutrition,” said Dr. René Chávez .

Several important points were addressed at this summit, among which we can highlight the issue of water resources, which ranks Peru as the eighth richest country in the world in terms of volumes of fresh water and the third in Latin America, following Brazil and Colombia. ; however, fresh water is distributed unevenly throughout the country: 97% of available fresh water is found in the Amazon Hydrographic Region, where 31% of the population lives according to the National Water Authority (ANA).

According to studies carried out in Loreto, Ucayali, Huancavelica and Lima, it shows that only 15% of girls feel comfortable using the toilets at their school. 35.6% of girls do not go to their educational center on the days of their menstruation for various reasons, among them, due to lack of water and adequate hygienic services. In conclusion, a space for articulation must be created between the three key institutions of the sector (MVCS, OTASS AND SUNASS).

Among the factors that generate hunger and poverty we can mention: Bad Agricultural Practices, Degradation of Soil, Water and the Environment and Effects of Climate Change, which make it difficult for people who suffer from it to improve their livelihoods. Likewise, it was announced that the second National Summit of Regional Governors will be held in the Lima provinces.

Finally, a joint declaration was signed where the following points are highlighted: demand from the national government, the declaration of emergency due to food and nutritional insecurity, that it approve the use of resources and contingency budgets with canon and canon resources to invest in current spending for national food security. The National Assembly of Regional Governments undertakes to: Establish a plan to fight hunger and malnutrition that defines regional and local policies that allow the transformation of food systems and dimension the investment and strategies to be required from the national government, install an intergovernmental organization to fight hunger before the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR).
