KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Jose Miranda hit an RBI single, Kyle Farmer drove in another run on a sacrifice fly and the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 2-0 on Saturday.
Sonny Gray (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings on a combined four-hit effort. He allowed three hits and dished out one strikeout in a performance that included four walks — all on full counts.
Four more relievers, Jorge Alcalá, Griffin Jax, Cleb Thielbar and Jorge López, painted the Royals white. Thielbar struck out three and Lopez earned his first save of the year.
Miranda singled to center in the first to drive in Byron Buxton. Farmer pinch hit in the sixth and hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Buxton.
Puerto Rican Christian Vázquez went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Buxton also had two hits.
In his debut with the Royals, Jordan Lyles (0-1) covered 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs — one earned — as well as five hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.
For the Twins, the Puerto Ricans Correa 3-0, Miranda 4-1 with a push from Vázquez 3-2.
For the Royals, the Venezuelan Salvador Pérez 4-2. The Dominican Franmil Reyes 2-0.
