The President of the World Bank Group, David Malpass began this March 31, 2023 in Lomé, the last official visit of his mandate at the head of the financial institution. It is also the first visit of a President of the World Bank to Togo.

He was greeted on his arrival at the airport by the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic and Country Governor of the World Bank, Ms. Sandra Ablamba Johnson.

David Malpass was then received by the Head of State Faure Gnassingbe with whom he continued the exchanges started last October in Washington in the USA.

“I am delighted to note that the agenda of his visit to Togo is aligned with our national priorities, in particular education, food security, digital transformation and the resilience of the populations in the current security context,” said Faure Gnassingbé. .

“We will continue to work to maintain a stable macroeconomic framework, despite the global context of crises, and to consolidate Togo’s place as a logistics platform of excellence for the region,” he added.

It should be noted that the World Bank is one of Togo’s main technical and financial partners. To date, the World Bank’s portfolio comprises 18 projects, including 9 national (for an amount of 420.10 million dollars or more than 252 billion FCFA), and 9 regional projects (for an amount of 535. 53 million dollars, or regarding 322 billion FCFA).
