Russia returns to the presidency of the UN Security Council – news

From today Russia assumes the presidency of the UN Security Council, the body responsible for maintaining international peace, reducing disputes and combating acts of international aggression.

The inauguration comes two weeks following the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant once morest Vladimir Putin for alleged war crimes.

Under UN rules, each of the 15 member countries of the Security Council assumes the presidency of the body on a rotating basis for a period of one month. The presidency of the Security Council decides the matters to be discussed, leads the meetings and takes care of various administrative actions of the body.

It was precisely the last time he assumed that post, in February 2022, that Russia decided to invade Ukraine, starting the war.
